It was India's 63rd Independence Day.Chakram Hikers had organised a trek to Korigad. I decided to be a part of the trek and am glad that I was able to be a part of it. There was a tree plantation scheduled along with a cleanliness drive.
We started a 6:30am in the morning in a bus. We reached the base village "Peth Shahpur" at 9:30 am in the morning. After a breakfast of Poha and some tea; we started for Korigad. At the base of the fort;just after you leave the village is the famous "Amby Valley". All of the Amby valley can be seen from "Korigad" fort.
The fort got it name from its shape (Koiri)/due to the temple of Koraidevi is situated at the top. The walls of the fort are still intact & one can walk along the perimeter of the walls. It is a big fort and the fort contains two lakes, temple of Korai Devi & temples of Lord Vishnu/Lord Shanker. From the fort at one side the fort of Tikona/Tung can be seen. On the other side we can see the Ambivane village and the road leading to tamhini ghat disappearing behind the hills. The fort lies in the pawana district of Maval Taluka.
The route to the top is not much steep;but is of gradual climb. The fort top can be reached in within 20-25 mins. There are steps leading to the fort door.

After we climbed the fort we started walking along the fort walls. We wanted to hoist flag but somebody has already done that. So we stood in silence for a few minutes near the flag. We sang national anthem. After that Shri. Madhav. Phadke told a bit about the fort's history and background.
After roaming around the fort we sat down to have lunch outside the KoraiDevi's temple. The villagers from down below had gathered for shravan mela. The ladies were enjoying themselves by playing fugadi n other games, along with singing the traditional shravan songs. It was great watch them;as this practice is fast disappearing from the cities.
And now is the time to get down the fort. All of us started picking plastics & any other piece of waste (beer bottles, gutka packets, cigarette packets.. etc). This was one of our ways to help keep the place clean.

Thus concluded out Independence Day Celebration/Trek.
P.S:- Only one thing that marred the celebrations was the absence of rains. [:(]
